Become our thundercoach!

The ThunderDoms are looking for a dedicated, supportive and enthusiastic Coach to help lead our B/team-level roller derby program. This role is ideal for someone who loves developing skaters, building confidence, fostering team spirit and helping players grow both on and off the track. The Thunderdoms are first and foremost a team focused on having fun and growing in experience together.

What does the Coach do?

  • Help maintain a positive, safe and inclusive team culture, focussed on fun and gaining derby experience together

Training

  • Lead approximately 1-2 team trainings per month
  • Create and maintain training plans and development goals
  • Support the development of newer skaters moving from rookie level into ThunderDoms
  • Help determine when skaters are ready for scrimmage and gameplay

Games & Competition

  • Work with the captains, the LUM and the bench support to build rosters and line-ups
  • Help define game strategy and player rotation approaches
  • Coach during home and away games
  • Attend captain meetings and manage official reviews/timeouts when needed
  • Coordinate with the A Team bench regarding crossover players and roster balance

Evaluation & Feedback

  • Participate in biannual player evaluations and team selection processes
  • Conduct individual feedback conversations with skaters
  • Support ongoing skater progression and goal-setting
  • Help maintain fair and transparent evaluation standards

Planning & Organization

  • Attend intercommittee and interbench meetings throughout the year
  • Support administrative tasks such as attendance tracking, roster organization and maintaining shared documents/drives
  • Help organize occasional team outings and team-building activities

  • Communicates clearly, positively and constructively
  • Works collaboratively with volunteers, captains and committees
  • Values inclusivity, safety and community-building
  • Can stay organized and help maintain long-term structure within the team
  • Previous coaching or bench experience is a plus
